ABSTRACT
An unusual case of traumatic maculopathy following blunt trauma with a sugarcane stick is reported in a 12-year-old boy. An area of parafoveal exudates associated with decrease in visual acuity was observed in the affected eye of the patient. Baseline parameters related to the best-corrected visual acuity, visual fields, fundus photographs, fluorescein angiography, and macular optical coherence tomography were performed and the patient was observed for 6 months with conservative management. There was complete resolution of the exudates with commensurate increase in the best-corrected visual acuity over this period. This unusual presentation of traumatic maculopathy is discussed along with the role of optical coherence tomography in such cases. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging 2009;40:421-424.]
